Yoga song

For the past three years, I have worked closely with a support group of migrant mothers in Los Angeles. Throughout my time with them, I have learned many valuable lessons about inner strength, endurance, and trust. As a group, we developed a practice of yoga that allowed us to not only reconnect with our bodies, but to reconnect with our inner selves.

The women reported that the practice of yoga deeply helped them in their everyday lives: it gave them the ability to regulate their breathing, be aware of their core, and reorient themselves in a space, in addition to being grounded. It was surprising because these skills have been known to work for groups of people that need to relieve stress and trauma symptoms. It is especially well known for treating psychosomatic imbalances, such as Post-traumatic stress disorder or a number of other stress-related conditions.

I took all this knowledge to co-write a song with the storyteller, painter, and musician Honorio Robledo. After we crafted the lyrics, Honorio and his son Nico Robledo transformed our words into this beautiful song that now is in the language of images.
